If there is a check in the "open" column, you could remove it to stop the message. Then look in the list of file types to find "2003 binary documents and templates" (MS's wordy way of saying 2003 DOC and DOT files!). I suspect you will find you have the first option selected. I even tried creating a new document after reinstallation- same problem. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Open Office. I've tried going into the control panel and showing hidden files. DOC files the lock files are unlikely to be the cause. And since the problem is happening with all (?). If it is not in use, quit all instances of Word, and then remove the owner file.
